Covering melasma can feel like a full-time job sometimes. Several hours of my day seem to be consumed with covering the dreaded melasma mustache and forehead stains that taunt me every time I look in the mirror. BUT, I suppose the nice thing about having melasma, is that I’ve learned a few makeup tricks over the years that have greatly improved my ability to cover up the melasma using a few different makeup techniques.
Tips to Covering Melasma with Makeup
1. Use a peach/orange concealer to cover gray-ish Melasma
It’s well-known in the beauty community that peach and orange concealers are the best hues to use when trying to cover a gray or dark spot. I personally use the Pixi Concealer Concentrate for my Melasma moustache and it works wonders! Apply the orange or peach concealer on the dark spots using a small brush or your fingertips. Pat dry with your fingers and then apply foundation over the concealer.

2. Use a foundation with built in SPF
As we all know Melasma is made worse when it is exposed to the sun. You can kill two birds with one stone by applying a foundation that has a built-in zinc SPF in the lotion. One of my favorites is the It! Cosmetics CC Cream. This foundation has a nice full coverage and SPF of 55.

3. Use a Vitamin C Serum to Boost skin
Vitamin C Serum has proven to be very effective for Melasma sufferers because Vitamin C boosts the skin’s natural ability to protect itself from the sun by inhibiting the melanin formation and reduces oxidized melanin, which leaves the skin feeling lighter and brighter.
